Over 1,500 women's rights leaders and activists from around the world converged at the 11th AWID International Forum held in Cape Town, South Africa from November 14-17, 2008 to discuss and strategize about how to build stronger movements that advance women's rights and gender equality globally.

The first World Conference of Women’s Shelters organized by Alberta Council of Women's Shelters, Canada was held from September 8-11, 2008 and presented a new opportunity for workers preventing family violence in Canada and around the world to network, share proven innovations, and to learn from international experts and each other.

The second Roundtable discussion on Draft of RA Law on Domestic Violence was organized and conducted by WRC on July 2, 2008 at Armenia-Marriott hotel to discuss development stages of the current Draft.

Since 2007 Women’s Right Center is implementing the project aimed at drafting and passing the Armenian Law on Domestic Violence. During the previous phases of the project a draft law was elaborated by working group, which consists of representatives of Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, the Police, Ministry of Health, Judges, etc.

“Պայքարը ընտանեկան բռնության դեմ Հայաստանում իրավական նախաձեռնությունների միջոցով” ծրագրի շրջանակներում Կանանց իրավունքների կենտրոնը ապրիլի 25-ին Արմենիա Մարիոթթ հյուրանոցում կազմակերպեց առաջին թեմատիկ կլոր սեղան քննարկումը Ընտանեկան բռնության մասին ՀՀ օրենքի նախագծի վերաբերյալ: Հանդիպմանը մասնակցեցին ՀՀ Աշխատանքի և սոցիալական հարցերի նախարարության Ընտանիքի, կանանց, երեխաների հիմնահարցերի վարչության, Երևանի քաղաքապետարանի Երեխաների իրավունքների պաշտպանության բաժնի, Թաղային համայնքների կրթության, սոցիալական և առողջապահական բաժինների, միջազգային և հասարակական կազմակերպությունների, լրատվամիջոցների 51 ներկայացուցիչներ:

Since February 1, 2007 the Women’s Rights Center lawyer has been investigating the legislation of the USA, Canada, Brazil, England, Holland, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Ecuador, the Republic of South Africa, Costa Rica, Puerto Rica, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Israel, Iran and Pakistan in the sphere of domestic violence.

On March 15, 20, 28 and April 18, 20, 23, 2007 the Women’s Rights Center has organized trainings on the theme of “Prevention of domestic violence against women” for 50 representatives of the police, psychologists, social and health care workers of Yerevan, Vanadzor and Gyumri.

On April 23, 2007, M. Zaqaryan, the Women’s Right Center psychologist, has organized a meeting at women’s consultation of Malatia Medical Center and has introduced the staff to the activity of the National Hot Line.

In the framework of “Combat domestic violence in Armenia” project, the Women’s Rights Center’s lawyer has in the period of 1 January – 30 March, 2007 conducted base-line investigation in police stations and courts to discover the gaps in the legal, administrative and institutional frameworks that address the issue of domestic violence and come up with policy recommendations, taking into consideration the experience of foreign countries in the field of domestic violence.

On April 5, 2007 Ts.Karapetyan, the WRC psychologist, and D.Papazyan participated in the “The role of women in society” meeting in the medical collage of Erebouni community. During the meeting, the topics of violence against women, women and politics, the social role of the woman in society were touched on.
