Domestic Violence in the World

A PLAGUE THAT SPARES NO COUNTRY...
EUROPE: In Sweden, a woman is battered every 20 minutes, every year, 25 to 30 women in Sweden are battered to death by their husbands.
In Austria, 1 woman in 5 women at least once was subjected to physical violence from a partner.
UK: 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence over their lifetimes. 30.000 women a week at least once experience domestic abuse. 
USA: Every 4 is subjected to violence and every hour dies a woman. Approximately 1.3 million women are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States.
AUSTRALIA: 1 in 5 women (19% of all women) have experienced sexual violence at some stage in their lives since the age 15.
INDIA: Every three minutes a crime against women is committed in India. Every six hours, a young married woman is burned, beaten to death or driven to commit suicide.
ARMENIA: Nearly 66% of 1006 respondents reported experiencing psychological abuse. 27 percent of the respondents experienced acts of moderate physical abuse. 

WRC Services on Domestic Violence

National Domestic Violence Hot Line Service provides psychological assistance and legal advice to women- victims of domestic violence and to raise awareness of the society about the issue;
Women’s Support and Drop-in-Center provides psychological assistance and legal advice to victims of domestic violence;
Women’s Support Group meetings and Parenting Days provide women with an opportunity to realise their inner positive resources and to seek for effective ways of its usage and application;
Emergency Shelter, reopened in September 2008 and provides roof for the women and their children whose lives are in danger in their family;
Women’s Health Club provides an opportunity to receive not only psychological, legal assistance but also to become aware about health care and body care methods through lectures, seminars, meetings; 
Children Dance and Performance Group. Children of DV women-victims and those from “usual” families are taught to sing and dance national Armenian songs and dances. Children are very enthusiastic about classes.

Gender Policy Provision Approved
Gender Policy Provision Approved

Today, the Government of the Republic of Armenia has approved the provision of Gender Policy. Within six months period RA Government has obligated all interested Ministries to present to RA Ministry of Labor and Social Issues the action plans for 2010-2015 on gender policy, which should be summerized within two months and introduce to RA Government.
