The day that unites young people of different nations and civilizations and emphasizes the importance of youth being the present and future of their countries was celebrated in Yerevan on August 12, 2009.

ASTRA Youth members’ meeting to discuss future action for the International Day of Youth was held at Women’s Rights Center’s office on July 21, 2009.

On July 10, 2009 a training on medical abortion for doctors of maternity hospitals and medical centers was organized in the framework of the project “Feasibility and Acceptability of Expanding Abortion Services in Armenia” in Congress Hotel.

On July 9, 2009 a dissemination meeting on “Improvement of Medical Abortion Services in Armenia” was conducted in Congress hotel, Yerevan.

An international conference on “EU gender politics in an international context – gender perspectives and gender indicators” took place on July 2-3, 2009 in the European Academy Berlin surrounded by marvelous gardens and stunning nature.

The 29th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers of Justice opened a forum for exchange of views on the issue of domestic violence and identify areas where further efforts are needed to tackle this problem in Europe.

The Second International Conference on “Early Terms of Pregnancy: problems, solutions and challenges” took place on 28-30 May in Moscow with participation of leading specialists obstetrician-gynecologists, managers of obstetric-gynecological services, directors of associations from Russia, CIS countries as well as USA, Germany and others.

On May 08, 2009 the Council on Women’s Affairs under the RA Government met with the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The issue of concern was the implementation of the activities of the „National Action Plan of the Republic of Armenia for 2004–2010 on Improving the Status of Women and Enhancing Their Role in Society”.

On April 28, 2009 the Armenian National Committee of Canada organized a reception to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by House of Commons. A large number of Canadian politicians attended the event to reaffirm their commitment to justice and to express their unwavering solidarity with the Armenian people in their struggle to fend off Armenian Genocide denial.

On April 27, 2009 twenty participants from around the world gathered for ad hoc meeting in Ottawa, Canada to exchange views, ideas and experience in network development; identify and outline the steps needed for Network formalization as well as to set activities on which individuals and organizations will take a lead role in moving forward.

“Today, the Council of Europe began the work on a new Europe-wide convention on action against violence against women. Over the past two years, we have worked to break the silence and end the indifference, now we are moving into action.”

By the support of the Public Affairs Section of US Embassy in Armenia Women’s Rights Center has organized a Children Dance and Performance Group to enable children of women-victims of domestic violence to restore emotional balance through music, performance, and art therapy.
