Conference on “Support for Victims and Successful Prosecution of Domestic Violence” held by US Embassy (16.03.2009)

US Department of Justice of the US Embassy in Armenia held a conference on “Support for Victims and Successful Prosecution of Domestic Violence” on March 16, 2009 with the participation of Experts from New York and local experts, prosecutors, judges, as well as representatives of different governmental institutions, international organizations (UNICEF, OSCE and Open Society Institute Foundation in Armenia, etc.) and Women’s Rights Center.

 
Women’s Rights Center held Working Group Meeting to finalize the Draft Law on Domestic Violence (13.03.2009)

On March 13, 2009 Women’s Rights Center organized Working Group Meeting to finalize the Draft Law on Domestic Violence as well as discuss and sign the Letter of Intent prepared by WRC.

 
Women’s Health Club - healthy lifestyle for women-victims of domestic violence (09.03.2009)

As an expansion of Women’s Support Group activity of Women's Rights Center there has been organized a Women’s Health Club to advocate healthy lifestyle among women-victims of domestic violence.

 
Meeting with Steven Kessler, Resident Legal Advisor of the US Embassy (29.01.2009)

On January 29, 2009 Ms. Vardanyan, President of Women’s Rights Center had a meeting with Steven Kessler, Resident Legal Advisor of the US Embassy’s Department of Justice. The aim of the meeting was to discuss upcoming meeting organized by US Embassy’s Department of Justice to be held on March 16, 2009.

 
Training on “Gender-based violence” (21.01.2009)

On January 21, 22 2009 Women’s Rights Center organized training on “Gender-based violence” with UNHCR’s Implementing Partners as well as refugees and asylum seekers in Armenia.

WRC’s Director Ms. Vardanyan meets OSCE Politico-Military Officer Mr. Hofstra to discuss perspectives of future cooperation and advice concerning the Draft Law on Domestic Violence.
 
A1+ discusses topic on domestic violence (18.12.2008)
On 18.12.2008 The Director of WRC, Ms. Susanna Vardanyan was invited for the interview in A1+ Online Media Publication. Ms. Nellie Duryan from RA Police, WRC Working Group member was also present. Situation on domestic violence was the main topic of discussions. Ms. Vardanyan introduced general situation in the country stating that domestic violence was, perhaps, the most pervasive human rights violation that ever exist in the world.

Round Table Discussion on survey findings on “Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) amongst Female Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Armenia” organized by Women’s Rights Center (WRC) was held on December 10, 2008 at Armenia-Marriott hotel.

 
First ever-Parliamentary Hearings on Child Protection (09.12.2008)

On December 9, 2008 a number of representatives of the Armenian parliament, government, international and local non-governmental organizations gathered for the first ever-parliamentary hearings on the theme of protection of child rights in Armenia. The Parliamentary Hearing was organized by UNICEF Armenia Office.

 
Walkathon for a Violence-Free Future for Women (30.11.2008)

On November 30, 2008 WRC director Ms. S.Vardanyan together with Anna Platonova, OSCE/ODIHR Project Officer and other activists participated in the Walkathon, organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy, American Councils, IREX, and the American University of Armenia (AUA).

 
Public Hearing on Draft Law on Domestic Violence (27.11.2008)

Public Hearing on Draft Law on Domestic Violence was held on November 27, 2008. It was of the utmost importance since it was presented to a great number of representatives of relevant governmental, public and civil institutions.
