Children Dance and Performance Group as a music therapy for children of women-victims of domestic violence (01.04.2009)
|
By the support of the Public Affairs Section of US Embassy in Armenia Women’s Rights Center has organized a Children Dance and Performance Group to enable children of women-victims of domestic violence to restore emotional balance through music, performance, and art therapy.
The work with women-victims of domestic violence is very important, but not the least significance acquires the work with their children. When a child grows up in an unhealthy family where domestic violence had occurred, very delicate work and attention must be done to prevent the child from repeating the case witnessed during their life. To divert their attention and thoughts from the case through different methods is the best solution for helping children.
One of the methods undertaken by Women’s Rights Center is organizing a Children Group of Dance, Song and Performance. The best solution that we came up with as a music therapy was Armenian folk (dancing and singing). In the group there are involved both children of women-victims of domestic violence and children from so-called “normal families” to assist our children to better reintegrate into the society. Children meet with dance and song teachers from the “Children’s Center of Culture and Art Education of the RA Ministry of Education and Science” twice per week. They are very enthusiastic about their classes and attend them with eagerness.
The results of the classes and this activity will be achieved and performed in autumn of the current year.
