Training on Medical Abortion in Gyumri took place on October 23-24 within the project of “Feasibility and acceptability of expanding abortion services in Armenia”. The target audience for the training was doctors of maternity hospitals in both Gyumri and other cities of Shirak marz of Armenia.
The two-days training was aimed at spreading information on the medical abortion methods used in different countries as well as providing information on the study on medical abortion carried out in three clinics in Yerevan and effective ways of introducing the method and relevant medicines in the country.
A package of relevant materials on medical abortion, including the list of studies, carried out by the Gynuity Health Projects, information booklet about the company, research and program summaries, a booklet “Tutorial on Medical abortion”, other booklets were disseminated to the participants.
The trainers - Dr. Tamar Tsereteli, Ph.D., Senior Consulting Associate (Gynuity Health Projects - Georgia) and Dr. George Tsertsvadze welcomed the participants and presented the goal and the agenda of the training.
Detailed information on Gynuity Health Projects activities, the study results carried out among doctors and women on medical abortion, abortion methods in Armenia, feasibility and acceptability of medical abortion in the country, international experience on medical abortion and many more topics were introduced to the participants.
The training became more interactive and participants started active discussion during the case studies and aftermath talks. The participants were reading the questions and giving their solutions, discussing each case step-by-step.
The second day training was devoted to summarizing the information received on the first day, providing overview of side effects and complications of medical abortion, consultation, contraception after the medical abortion.
At the end of the training, the participants received certificates of participation and thanked the trainers and organizers for an interesting and useful training. The trainers expressed their confidence that the training will assist participants to acquire better knowledge on methods and mechanisms of medical abortion, which will bring valuable input for the reproductive health situation in Armenia.
