International Human Rights Day and the Closing of “16 Days” Campaign (10.12.2009)
In the framework of “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence” Campaign Women’s Rights Center has organized its closing event on the International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2009 in Yerevan State Puppet Theater after H. Toumanyan.
The White Ribbon Campaign that launched from November 25 also continued on December 10. The Ribbons were distributed to the participants attending the event by explaining the meaning of the Ribbons.
At the beginning of the event, the Children’s Folk Group that has been created by Women’s Rights Center performed national songs and dances. By every concert, the children were getting more experience on performing on the stage. They become more confident and better perform their songs and dances.
After the concert of the Children’s Folk Group, the audience was invited to enjoy another performance of a group of actors from “Theater of Changes” who have staged a play based on a true story on domestic violence. It was an interactive theater when after the performance the audience had the opportunity to state its own point of view on the actions or behavior of the heroes of the play. The audience could also participate in certain scenes rather crucial for the play and try to change the end of the story by proposing their own ideas and versions.
The audience was active and a number of ideas and proposals to change the situation and help the hero who was the most oppressed in the play were proposed by the audience.
This type of interactive discussion are considered very important by Women’s Rights Center and provides great opportunity to raise the issue of domestic violence and allow people to discuss it loudly, to understand the influence of that evil on the victims, their family life, children’s behavior as well as formation of a health society in general.
