The 54th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (01.03.2010)

The 54th session of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was held from March 1-12, 2010 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
The Commission on the Status of Women was established in 1946 by the Economic and Social Council to prepare recommendations and reports for the Council on promoting women’s rights in the political, economic, civil, social and educational fields.
This year the Commission reviewed the implementation of the topic 2010 “Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the outcome of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly” and its contribution to shaping a perspective towards the full realization of the Millennium Development Goals.
During the 54th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the head of the Armenian Delegation made a speech, paying particular attention and speaking on the projects and reforms carried out within the framework of gender policy as well as a number of strategic projects on improving women’s status implemented by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
On the final day of the session, the Commission adopted resolutions on the topics of women, the girl child and HIV/AIDS; women’s economic empowerment, release of women and children taken hostage, including those subsequently imprisoned, in armed conflict; etc.
