Domestic violence against women is a serious problem for our nation. In many societies the problem is kept quiet and no one gets involved, but today people are getting involved and are trying to stop all types of domestic violence against women and children. Thus, WRC provides conferences, workshops and free trainings on the prevention of domestic violence against women and their children by educating and by raising public awareness on domestic violence issue. On June 16, 2010, Women’s Rights Center provided a training on topic of “Domesticviolence issue and its prevention in Armenia”, which was held in the conference hall of Lori marz Municipality.The course was primarily directed to police officers. WRC trainers presented them the current situation of domestic violence issue in Armenia, its types, main consequences, ways of combating and preventing it, as well as ways of treatment with women-victims of domestic violence and with their children and how to deal with violence. Domestic violence training program was dynamic and frank discussion to help police officers understand how to better assist victims of domestic violence. The participants discussed the behavior of victims, abusers, and officers. WRC trainers taught them how they could reduce domestic violence rate with effective early intervention available for law enforcement officers, victim advocates, victim service providers. WRC will continue to hold such multiple domestic violence training conferences throughout Armenia.
