The Human Rights EXPO 2011 took place at the K. Demirjian Sport-Concert Complex on Human Rights Day, December 10, 2011, which is also celebrated as the day of “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights” adopted by the UN. Over 80 non-governmental organizations, as well as UN Development Programme, the European Union, UNICEF, the OSCE, US Agency for International Development, Converse Bank, Open Society Foundation and Counterpart International’s representation in Armenia have supported the Human Rights EXPO 2011.
The exhibition was organized by the Human Rights Defender’s Office in Armenia. During the opening ceremony a number of high-ranking guests, such as UN Resident Coordinator Dafina Gercheva, the Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan as well as several other officials made speeches.
The EXPO 2011 pavilions present the organizations that operate in the field of human rights protection. Women’s Rights Center represents the pavilion concerning women’s rights. The Center works in the field of human rights protection, particularly supporting the rights of women-victims of domestic violence and their children.
During the exhibition published materials and information of all organizations were distributed to the participants in the form of booklets, leaflets and books. This event provides the society another opportunity to be acquainted with the organizations operating in Armenia, as well as all the services and activities they implement.
