Participation in the “1st Studio: Hostage in Ukraine” TV program (09.02.2018)

On February 7, 2018 shooting of the TV program under the theme of “1st
Studio: Hostage in Ukraine” took place with the aim to reveal and provide an
expert approach to the problem of Armenian woman subjected to domestic
violence. The experts were human rights defender Z. Hovhannisyan, Women's
Rights Center psychologist M. Eghiazaryan and attorney G. Sahakyan. An Armenian
woman was abused by her husband and father-in-law and in the result she went
outdoors with her two children and applied to a shelter attached to church. Yet
her husband managed to take the smaller breast feeding baby away from her and banned
mother keep in touch with the baby even when it was in hospital. At the moment
the woman with her 6 years old child stayed at the shelter attached to church
in Kharkov, the smaller baby was with the father, both children were citizens
of Ukraine and the father’s permission was needed for the children to be taken
away from the country. The aim of the program was to throw light on this case
and understand what levers could be used to assist the woman return to Armenia.
The facts, opinions of the sides, experts’ opinion, as well as the position and
suggestions of the Embassy were presented during the TV program. The full video
